About Public Safety Language Training (PSLT)
In 1990 Law
Enforcement Language
Training
(LELT) was founded
by Alejandra Gomez
to provide cost effective and efficient Spanish language training to police
departments in the San Francisco Bay
area.
As the effectiveness of these courses became recognized, requests from
existing clients led to the development of similar courses for Firefighters/ EMS
and Correctional
Officers. To better reflect this broader range of
clients, products and services LELT changed it's name to Public Safety
Language Training (PSLT) in 2007.
Based on
feedback from Police Officers and our other contacts in the community we became
aware of the need for English training for Spanish speaking immigrants. Using the same
techniques we perfected teaching Police, Firefighters and Correctional Officers
we created "Ingles Fácil para el Trabajo", which covers the situations
faced by immigrant workers when looking for work or when working on the
job.
Alejandra
taught English to Dayworkers in San Jose and and at the Learning & Loving
Education Center in Morgan Hill. She was a board member who initiated and taught
English at the Dayworkers Center in Morgan Hill. She teaches English as a Second
Language at the Morgan Hill Adult School.
